Trackside News Update – January 25, 2010
The early bird catches the worm, so they say. The weekend started off with Safety Inspections, ‘Test & Tune’ sessions, and Team Licenses’ that were up for renewal, while other Teams with their ‘Rookie’ Drivers who were just getting started in racing.
For those Teams that came prepared to the track on Saturday, if they finished their preliminaries’ in record time the day before, then on Sunday they took great pleasure in talking with others as they stood in the ‘Fast Lane’ to enter for Sunday’s 1st event of the season the ‘ICE BREAKER’ with it came three new ‘Rookie’ Teams.
On Saturday Rookie Drivers took their share of practice time, again on Sunday, as well as racing in two 20 lap Heats, Finishing off with a 30 Lap Feature. Over 33 Teams showed up for the fun-day at the races.
For those race fans that are looking for a new team to cheer for, the Jr. Rookies are required to race with a red restrictor plate, Sr. Rookies a blue plate. The starting Line Up for the 1st heat, was Gage Leonard, age 8, who drove car # 25 this was his 1st race, Jacob Woolf, age 10 in car # 31 this was his 1st race as well, with Ty Nevins, age 6, in car # 3, this was his 3rd race at Tampa, and rounding out the field was Conner Dutting, age 5, driving car # 28.
In the 30 Lap Feature the race ended with Gage Leonard in car # 25 crossing the finish line 1st, followed by Ty Nevins in car # 3, then Connor Dutting car # 28, and Jacob Woolf in car # 31.
Tampa knows the importance of gaining experiences, both on & off the Track. So to be fair to Team Woolf and their driver who is a Senior Rookie, he was required to race with a red restrictor plate, rather than race alone. Rookies do not race for a Championship Title nor points their Rookie season is for the drivers to gain racing as many driving experiences, before being required to move up to the next competitive level that do Race for Points and a Championship Title in the more experienced divisions.
If you are a race fan make plans to watch the next race up close and personal Spectators are admitted FREE, it will be held on Sunday, Feb 7th, it is the 1st Points race of the season, racing will start at noon time, fun for the entire family! If you can’t make the race, watch it on: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/tbqmra
